London - Jose Mourinho has been trying hard to bring Steven Gerrard to Chelsea, but ultimately failed. The failure is one of the most disappointing thing Mourinho.

After giving the 2004/2005 Premier League trophy for Chelsea, Mourinho intends to strengthen his midfield. He also asked the club to bring Gerrard.

It was not the first time Chelsea tried to recruit Gerrard of Liverpool. The Blues never did it in 2004, but Gerrard refused to move to Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho opportunity to bring Gerrard to Chelsea looks great because it was Liverpool and Gerrard have not agreed about a new contract. In fact, the current Liverpool boss, Rick Parry, was resigned when Gerrard went. After Parry said this, the next day Gerrard signed a new four-year contract with the Reds.

Mourinho respect Gerrard's decision to stay in Liverpool. However, he also claimed to be sorely disappointed because they can not get a player of his dreams.

"Yes," said Mourinho when asked whether the failure to bring Gerrard is the biggest disappointment in the transfer market, as quoted by Sky Sports.

"But, there is another, which is when I try to bring (Frank) Lampard to Inter," he continued.

"I've almost made it and it did not happen as well. I had a few disappointments and it was normal in football," said Mourinho.

"I understand why he is almost, almost, almost came to Chelsea. But, he finally did not come and I really respect that," he said.

Furthermore, Mourinho revealed that he used to have a dream to combine Gerrard, Lampard and Claude Makelele in midfield.

"We did everything (to recruit) and had almost succeeded. I dream of Makelele, Gerrard, and Lampard in midfield," he said.

"We use a triangular formation in the middle with no player number 10 and put then in front of the defender. I, Mr. (Roman) Abramovich, and (former Chelsea boss) Peter Kenyon dreamed of it," he added.

"The people at Liverpool opportunities he joined a top club like Chelsea. But, for me personally, he never said he would come. Never. He was always red and I thought it was the right decision," said Mourinho.

Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract runs out. He will next begin a new adventure with the Los Angeles Galay in Major League Soccer competition.
