California - The legendary American player, Landon Donovan, immortalized by Major League Soccer (MLS). Her name is used for the best player trophy.
MLS Authority yesterday announced that the award MVP Award is now named Landon Donovan MVP Award.
"It is unthinkable. Thanks (MLS Commissioner Don Garber, MLS, and all the people who are always supportive. I am very touched and proud of this honor," Donovan said in a statement, quoted by the site ESPNFC.
Men born in Ontario, California, and began his career in MLS in 2001 along with the San Jose Earthquakes on loan from Bayer Leverkusen. After that, from 2005 he was listed as the LA Galaxy player, to retire on December 7, 2014. During the Galaxy he had loaned to Bayern Munich and Everton.
Donovan is currently listed as the top scorer in MLS with a total of 144 goals, and also the maker of most assists (136). He also won six MLS Cup: 2 along the San Jose Earthquakes, 4 with the Galaxy.
MVP title once he embraced in 2009. In its history since 1996, there is only one player who was once the MVP, that Predrag 'Preki' Radosavljevic, in 1997 and 2003.
